January 9, 2015

This week in Fundations focused on ABC order and tapping out CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant)

Our sight words for the week were: with, me, she

At school this week we:

·        Introduced tapping!

o   The words of the week were: mat, map, sad, sat, sap, sip, sit, mop, mud, rat, rap, rag, nap, nip, fit, fig, fog, lit, lip, lap, rip, set, fat

·        Read Little Quack

·        Had fun making tally marks with popsicle sticks

·        Learned about ten frames

We use them to help us count

·        Wrote about what we can do when we’re older that we can’t do now

·        Practiced numbers 11-16

·        Read 10 CVC words to fill up a ten frame.  They got a sticker for each word they read

·        Practiced writing their lowercase letters

·        Colored a Go Patriots coloring page

On Wednesday, I pulled students from the class to assess them on their letter identification, letter sounds, segmentation skills, and tapping skills.  They did great!  They proved how hard they have been working these past few months!

Ask your child what else they learned.  Next week in Fundations we will be focusing on the uppercase letters A, B, C, D, E and F.  Our sight words will be ‘see,’ ‘can,’ and ‘look’.

Have a fantastic weekend! Go Patriots!
