September 8th
We made it through 4 days of school this week! We worked hard getting into a routine and learning the schedule we'll be keeping.
-In math we've been working on counting and identifying numbers to 50.
-During reading workshop we talked about what readers do and we independently read for 5 minutes each day
-During Fundations we've been introducing letters each day and reviewing how to write them. Next week we're going to continue and practice writing our names
-We began writing workshop this week

Welcome to first grade! I'm so excited to meet all the new students and their families! We had a great first week full getting to know each other and schedules for our day. Next week we'll continue getting to know each other and get a bit more into what we'll be learning throughout the school year!

We had a great first week back to school in the new year.
In math:
-started working with time
-we focused on hour and half hour, we will begin working on drawing the hands of the clock next week
In reading:
-we started looking at nonfiction books
-we will be looking at different features of a nonfiction text next week
In Fundations:
-we introduced consonant blends (examples: st, br, sl)
-our trick words are would, could, should, her, number, over
In Science:
-we watched a Magic School Bus on Light
-Reading a light book during reading workshop
In writing workshop our class is working on writing How To texts so for our craft today we made paper footballs. We did not get much time to practice with them but they are in their backpacks.

We had a great first week back to school in the new year.
In math:
-we wrapped up our unit 2 which focused on place value, numbers 1-120, and hundreds chart grids.
-next week we will be focusing on addition and subtraction within 15
In reading:
-we started talking about metacognition; thinking about thinking
-we focused on what we should be thinking about while reading
-we also reached 22 minutes of independent reading to earn Pj day!
In Fundations:
-the week before break we introduced glued sounds (ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk)
-next week we will add the suffix s to those glued sounds
-we will also have a check in
In Science:
-we finished up our weather unit
-started our light unit by using flashlight to determine where light goes and what it can travel through. We talked about objects that are translucent, transparent and opaque.
-we also read about polar bears in our Scholastic magazine and how they copy their mothers
