May 26th-May28th


May 28, 2015

We only had three days of school this week but we learned a lot!

This week at school we:

·       Began learning about poetry

·       Read ISpy books

·       Learned about capacity and weight

·       Wrote about what we want to be when we grow up in our All About Me books

·       Wrote about our favorite book

·       Earned extra recess for doing a great job while a substitute was in the classroom

Ask your child what else they learned.

I hope you were all able to make it to the art show!

Kindergarten does NOT have school tomorrow!

Enjoy the extra day off!

Upcoming events:

June 12th: Field Day-Unfortunately, I am not going to be at school so I am looking for volunteers who would like to run the centers for our class.  Parents are also invited to come to watch the students participate in the activities.  Please email me if you are interested in volunteering to run an activity.

June 18th: Our class end of the year party!  We will be celebrating the great year we have had together!  Everyone is invited to celebrate with us! The celebration will go from 10am-11am.

June 19th: Our class will be going on a walking field trip to the Wrentham Library!

June 24th: Move Up Day!  The boys and girls will spend 15 minutes with their first grade teacher.  This is also the last day of school.

We have now introduced all of our sight words and will be reviewing them for the rest of the year.

This week at school we:

·       Learned more about the tadpole to frog lifecycle

·       Worked on subtraction worksheets

·       Practiced using non-standard units of measurement while measuring around the classroom

·       Attended Monday’s Walk at School! The boys and girls did three laps and wanted to keep going!  They did an awesome job exercising!

·       Wrote about our favorite type of exercise

·       Wrote about the members of our families in our All About Me books

·       Read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog

·       Reviewed ten frames

·       Went to the book fair

Ask your child what else they learned.

Kindergarten does NOT have school on Friday!

May 4th-8th

Our sight words for the week were: what, was, said

This week at school we:

·       Read more books about butterflies and then watched them leave their chrysalides and turn to butterflies.  We released them today!

·       Learned how to use non-standard units of measurement

·       Practiced our silent reading and reading to the class from our book bins

·       Began writing our first and last names on our papers

·       Earned all of the class marbles and got outside recess

·       Watched a Magic School Bus about seeds because they read over 1,000 minutes.

·       Had pajama day!

·       Practiced spelling CVC words and words that include digraphs 

Ask your child what else they learned.  Our sight words next week will be ‘by,’ ‘come,’ and ‘where.’

 Our class will be going to the book fair on May 20th from 9-9:30am.  Feel free to join us during that time to help your child pick out their books.  Please meet us in the Vogel Auditorium.

April 27th-May 1st

Our sight words for the week were: what, was, said

This week at school we:

·       Read From Caterpillars to Butterflies and then created origami butterflies

·       Observed our caterpillars in their chrysalides

·       Reviewed and practiced how to use a number line when adding and subtracting

·       Practiced our silent reading and reading to the class from our book bins

·       Made 3D shapes with play dough

·       Write about their vacations and what animals they would want as a pet

·       Worked on math facts within 5

·       Created butterflies with paper plates and pipe cleaners

·       Got outside for recess

·       Earned all of the class marbles so they earn a treat to be decided on Monday

Ask your child what else they learned.  Our sight words next week will be ‘was,’ ‘said,’ and ‘what.’

The boys and girls have done fantastic with their reading logs!  The class has read 1665 minutes this month!  Today they were given certificates and a Dr. Seuss pencil to celebrate their great reading!
