January 6th

January 6, 2017

We had a great first week back to school in the new year.

In math:
-we wrapped up our unit 2 which focused on place value, numbers 1-120, and hundreds chart grids.
-next week we will be focusing on addition and subtraction within 15

In reading:
-we started talking about metacognition; thinking about thinking
-we focused on what we should be thinking about while reading
-we also reached 22 minutes of independent reading to earn Pj day!

In Fundations:
-the week before break we introduced glued sounds (ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk)
-next week we will add the suffix s to those glued sounds
-we will also have a check in

In Science:
-we finished up our weather unit
-started our light unit by using flashlight to determine where light goes and what it can travel through. We talked about objects that are translucent, transparent and opaque.
-we also read about polar bears in our Scholastic magazine and how they copy their mothers

I hope you all had a great start to your new year!
Miss Walsh
