September 14-18

September 18, 2015

This week we had our first full week of first grade!  We have already done so much. Here are a few highlights of our week:
In math we:

·         Worked on writing addition math sentences

·         Practiced addition word problems

·         Learned how to add with horizontal and vertical math problems

·         Learned that with addition, the number order does not matter before the equal sign

·         Worked on strategies for addition (using our fingers, drawing objects, and counting on)
In reading we:
·         Continued to share our favorite books with the class

·         Discussed how everyone reads at a different pace

·         Mentioned how next week we will be beginning reading at our own level

·         Read Audrey’s Tree House and then drew our ideal tree house

·         Drew our favorite reading moment

·         Reviewed using a picture walk to help us with words we do not know
In writing we:
·         Continue to work on our narrative stories.  We focused on beginning, middle and end this week.  A few students got to share their stories and the rest will share next week.
In Fundations we:
·         Finished introducing all of the letters of the alphabet and worked on placing the letters in alphabetic order

·         Next week we will begin tapping.
In science we began our plant unit and also included social studies by discussing Johnny Appleseed.
This week we also had our first computer class.  We had a great first full week!
Have a great weekend,
