March 14th-18th

March 18, 2016

Here are a few things we learned this week:

In math we:
-Continued learning about time (telling time to the hour and half hour, writing the time, and drawing the hands on a clock to show the time)

In reading we:
-This week we focused on making connections in our text to our life.
-Began reading poetry

In writing we:
-Continued writing All About pieces. Worked on making sure we have an introduction and ending

In Fundations we:
-Introduced –ed and –ing suffixes
-Our sight words for this week were any, many, out, about, our, down

On Tuesday, The Children’s Museum from Easton visited our school to each our class about sound.  The boys and girls were able to try four sound stations and even make an instrument to bring home!  On Friday, Colleen’s mom came in to read a story to the boys and girls for Colleen’s birthday.

Our class has done an AWESOME job fundraising for our playground/Boosterthon!  We have raised over $30 PPL (pledge per lap) for the class!  The boys and girls have earned a sticker, board game time, crazy sock day and extra recess!! Over the weekend and into next week they will be working for a ½ hour video and no homework!

Here are a few things we learned this week:

In math we:
-Finished up measurement
-Introduced time

In reading we:
-Continued with our non-fiction reading workshop unit.  This week we focused on making connections in our text to our life.
-Began reading poetry

In writing we:
-Began writing All About pieces.
-We published our when we grow up pieces.
-Began talking about poetry

In Fundations we:
-Introduced three letter consonant blends
-Our sight words for this week were any, many, out, about, our, down

On Monday, Walpole Dental Associates visited and we were able to learn all about caring for our teeth.  The boys and girls even left with a nice bag full of exciting items!  On Wednesday, David’s dad came in to read a story to the boys and girls for David’s birthday.

February 29th-March 4th

Here are a few things we learned this week:

In math we:
-Introduced measuring
-The boys and girls measured objects with strings, bees, and seeds.

In reading we:
-Continued with our non-fiction reading workshop unit.  This week we focused on understanding the author’s purpose.

In writing we:
-finished publishing our final How To piece.
-We wrote about what we want to be when we grow up.  This is the story we are going to put into our hardcover books that we will get to take home after they return from the publishers.  Thank you to Jessica Fleischman and Lindsay McDonald for coming in on Thursday afternoon to help us with this.

In Fundations we:
-Introduced three letter consonant blends
-Reviewed how to properly write a sentence with an uppercase letter and ending marks.

We had a big day on Wednesday because we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday! In the morning we read with the entire first grade in the cafeteria.  Then we went to the book fair and picked out some great books!  After the book fair Miss Yelle’s class (4th grade) came to read us different stories.  At 11:30 Dr. Beauchaine, the Roderick principal, came to read us Fox in Socks!  It was a busy day but we had a lot of fun!  On Thursday, we read about Dr. Seuss in our Scholastic magazine.
