Last week for our April Reading Challenge!

This is the last week for our April Reading Challenge!  The boys and girls have done a great job.  All together they have read 975 minutes! Keep up the great work and don't forget to hand in your minutes by Friday!

April 13th - April 17th

April 17, 2015

Our sight words for the week were: green, yellow, blue

This week at school we:
·       Read Mayday! Mayday! and wrote about different emergency transportation

·       Practiced addition and subtraction word problems

·       Learned how to use a number line when adding and subtracting

·       Practiced our silent reading and reading to the class from our book bins

·       Practiced writing CVC and sight words on whiteboards

·       Reviewed digraphs (th, sh, ch, ck, and wh)

·       Went to a presentation on allergy awarenss

·       Finished making our own paper

·       Got caterpillars as our new class pets!

·       Finished our number of the day packets 

Ask your child what else they learned.  Our sight words next week will be ‘was,’ ‘said,’ ‘by,’ and ‘what.’

The boys and girls have done fantastic with their reading logs so far this month!  The class has read over 550 minutes so far!  Each time a student brings in their reading log I have to make the thermometer larger.  Keep up the awesome work!

April 6th - April 10th


April 10, 2015

Our sight words for the week were: green, yellow, blue

This week at school we:

·        Read Max Takes the Train and wrote about different methods of transportation

·        Learned how to write a book and then wrote characters, a setting, and plot for our own

·        Practiced addition and subtraction word problems

·        Reviewed 0 and 1 fact families and introduced adding 2 more by counting on

·        Practiced our silent reading and reading to the class from our book bins

·        Practiced writing CVC and sight words

·        Reviewed digraphs (th, sh, ch, ck, and wh)

·        Reviewed the scientific method

·        Came up with a list of uses of trees and then watched a Reading Rainbow episode about paper

·        Began the paper making process by ripping up construction paper into small pieces

Ask your child what else they learned.  Our sight words next week will be ‘yellow,’ ‘blue,’ and ‘green.’

Our sight words for the week were: here, go, from
 
This week at school we:
·        Read the There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick and wrote about an old lady swallowing pieces of the school to make our own class book.
·        Had an egg hunt in which we found letters inside and egg and made CVC words
·        Practiced addition and subtraction word problems
·        Had a special presentation from Walpole Dental Association about caring for our teeth
·        Discussed 0 and 1 fact families
·        Practiced our silent reading and reading to the class from our book bins
·        Practiced writing our sight words
·        Introduced digraphs and begin to work with them.  Our current digraphs are th, sh, ch, ck, and wh.
·        Made a digraph flower for our bulletin board
·        Used the Big Bus program on the computers
Ask your child what else they learned.  Our sight words next week will be ‘yellow,’ ‘blue,’ and ‘green.’
