This week in Fundations focused on the uppercase letters Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z and tapping out CVC words.

Our sight words for the week were: they, of, his, you

At school this week we:

·        Created an awesome Eyeopener video for Channel 5 to air on their News segment which can now be seen on the school’s homepage

·        Had a little party during snack on Monday for Mrs. H’s birthday.  We had made her cards last week

·        Practiced the numbers 15-20

·        Listened to “Game Day” on Tumblebooks

·        Played a football sight word game

·        Finished working on our uppercase letters

·        Made predictions on who would win the Super Bowl

·        Friday we finished stories about something we like

·        Played a big football game with the class.  The students had to break into teams and answer questions to earn a yard for their team

·        Created a football player craft

Ask your child what else they learned.  Next week in Fundations we will be focusing on tapping and writing CVC words.  Our sight words will be ‘they,’ ‘you,’ ‘of,’ ‘as,’and ‘has’.

This week in Fundations focused on the uppercase letters I, J, K, L, M, N, O, and P   and tapping out CVC words.

Our sight words for the week were: see, look, can, are, and

At school this week we:

·        Created snowmen out of glue

·        Completed Fundations papers for letter I-P

·        Learned about the life cycle of a caterpillar

·        Worked on the 14 as number of the day

·        Learned about the structure of a sentence

o   They always start with an uppercase letter

o   They always end with punctuation

o   There needs to be spaces in between each word

·        Played a numbers memory game with ten frames

·        Had a visit from Dr. R. to help us continue to decompose numbers

·        Practiced our Old MacDonald vowel song

·        Created surprise birthday cards for Mrs. H. Her birthday is next Tuesday.

Please do not feel the need to finish the homework in one week.  Many letters were sent home so feel free to send them back when they are done.  I am sending home this week’s today so the students have the opportunity to work on them over the weekend since there are so many letters to complete.

Don’t forget to wear Patriots gear, red white and blue, or Wrentham spirit wear for our Channel 5 “Eyeopener” event!

Ask your child what else they learned.  Next week in Fundations we will be focusing on the uppercase letters Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z.  Our sight words will be ‘they,’ ‘you,’ ‘of,’ and ‘his’.

This week in Fundations focused on the uppercase letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H and tapping out CVC words.

Our sight words for the week were: see, look

At school this week we:

·        Practiced tapping with the words from last week

o   The words of the week were: mat, map, sad, sat, sap, sip, sit, mop, mud, rat, rap, rag, nap, nip, fit, fig, fog, lit, lip, lap, rip, set, fat

·        Read 5 Little Ducklings

·        Introduced decomposition

o   Decomposition is breaking a number down into parts

o   We began with the number 5

·        Went to a band concert

·        Watched Bao Bao the baby panda on the Panda Cam put together by the National Zoological Park.

·        Had an Open Circle lesson to talk about giving compliments and nonverbal signals

·        Learned a version of Old MacDonald to help us with our vowel sounds

o   Old MacDonald had a farm.

This week in Fundations focused on ABC order and tapping out CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant)

Our sight words for the week were: with, me, she

At school this week we:

·        Introduced tapping!

o   The words of the week were: mat, map, sad, sat, sap, sip, sit, mop, mud, rat, rap, rag, nap, nip, fit, fig, fog, lit, lip, lap, rip, set, fat

·        Read Little Quack

·        Had fun making tally marks with popsicle sticks

We use them to help us count

·        Wrote about what we can do when we’re older that we can’t do now

·        Practiced numbers 11-16

·        Read 10 CVC words to fill up a ten frame.  They got a sticker for each word they read

·        Practiced writing their lowercase letters

·        Colored a Go Patriots coloring page

On Wednesday, I pulled students from the class to assess them on their letter identification, letter sounds, segmentation skills, and tapping skills.  They did great!  They proved how hard they have been working these past few months!
